The discussion of coding has been a very interesting one for me. I have never thought about coding before. My brother’s the computer guy, I’m the humanities girl, and that’s just how I’ve always viewed it. However, I really appreciate the short intro into the topic by practicing coding myself, reading about how it will influence education, and reading about how it will influence our country and our world. Just like it’s important for us to understand how our bodies work or how the Earth rotates and adapts, I do believe we should know more about these devices work that are always in our hands. I really liked Tricia’s open-minded opinion to the topic, and like her, I see this as being a tool for engagement and something new and relevant to which we can expose our students. I am glad Genevieve was able to find more cons than I can, because I really want to have an informed opinion, but I still think that I agree with the need for coding classes in school.
I don’t see how I personally will be able to do much with coding in Literature class, but I do fully support it in my school, either as a stand-alone class or integrated using the hybrid model with math classes.
